As we know from the iTunes Keyboard Shortcuts post, it’s possible to check/uncheck an entire playlist of songs using Ctrl+Click, however, a reader has emailed in asking how he can check/uncheck a song using the keyboard only.

As far as i’m aware, there’s no built-in feature for this, but with the wealth of Plugins out there, there has to be something somewhere to do what he wants! Anyone care to help? He’d be eternally grateful!

As one reader asked in the mmKeys.dll post about fixing multimedia keys to work with iTunes when minimised or in a game, is it possible to use the volume control to instead adjust the 5-star rating of the currently playing song in iTunes?

It may well be possible using a simple re-map or reconfiguration of the keyboard controls (with the keyboards driver settings), but if so, or if there’s any other way, we’d love to hear about it! Let rip in the comments!

EDIT: As a keen reader has pointed out, this software no longer works, due to changes made in the latest release of iTunes. Instead, use HKTunes, found on google code.

Makes your multimedia keyboard buttons work with iTunes when the program isn’t currently in focus, or is minimised.

It is common to find that, when it’s not maximised, iTunes will not recognise your media or gaming keyboard shortcuts as commands to play, pause, skip song, etc. This simple plugin fixes the problem in most cases. It saves you having to bring iTunes up on screen each time you want to use the keys. [more]
