pulpTunes is a Web server for iTunes, letting you access your music
through the Web. Written in Java, it runs on Windows and Mac, and even
any other platform like Linux, provided you have an iTunes-like XML
library file that points at the path of your music files.

The web interface allows you to:
- Select a playlist
- Browse by genre, artist and album
- Download songs
- Each song has a link, that you can send to a friend to hear it.

Freeware iTunes add-on GimmeSomeTune automatically fetches missing album artwork, lyrics, and automatically embeds them in your music library. The program runs in the background, and in addition to the metadata tools, it also supports scrobbling your music to Last.fm, universal hotkeys, iChat status updates, and even Apple Remote control. Apart from all that, GimmeSomeTune is also an excellent iTunes desktop remote, complete with a fully customizable song notification window.

A Note on DRM for the Everything iTunes community

Not too long ago there was a software program listed on this site called, “Requiem”. It allowed a person to strip the needless drm protection off their itunes songs and videos. It worked great but Apple made us take it off this site, effectively killing the community. Unfortunatly as much as I would like to put the program back on this site I cannot do so bacause of Apple. As much as we love them sometimes they can be plain rotten! However if your the ambitious type head over to a new site called “Undrm.net”. There you can download Requiem and learn about other drm removal software. Just register at the site’s “forum” section to have access to the downloads.

Ourtunes Update, version 1.7f [download music from itunes shares]

This is the latest version of ourtunes a software that allows a person to download songs from itunes shares. Released on July the 23rd, it includes some bug fixes and some new features such as added support for midi and wav files. Also it no longer shares port 3689 with itunes in hopes that it will play nicer with itunes on OS X. The developer calls this an, “experimental release” so it probably still has many bugs. Extend The Life of Your iTunes Movie Rentals to 30 days!

Since the launch of the itunes movie rental section many users have complained about the short 24 period to watch a movie after one has bought and started watching it. Fortunately I have found a way to extend the life of your itunes movie rentals to a full 30 days, rather than that measly 24 hours allotted by default. To use just download the applescript. [A note to apple's lawyers, this script is completly legal as it executes just a simple file copy operation and does not hack or modify the itunes application in any way. In addition it does NOT prevent the rental from expiring it just gives users a much more reasonable time to watch their movie. After all when one rents a movie from Nexflix they can keep it as long as they want until they return it for a new one. Why should iTunes users have to rush though their rented movie?]

iPodDisk is an elegant little free utility that opens your iPod up in Finder just like it was a normal drive.

Unlike opening an iPod in Windows, iPodDisk turns all of the odd file structures into an easy-to-navigate layout that lets you sort down through your artists, albums, playlists, etc. — drag whatever you want off and put it in your iTunes.

It’ll even open a Windows-formatted iPod just fine — which makes this a rather convenient way to get from a Windows iPod to a Mac formatted one (drag all of the files out with iPodDisk, reinitialize the iPod with the Mac iPod Updater, load the files into iTunes and let it stick them back on your iPod.

iPodDisk is a Power PC program, but it works fine on Intel Macs (at least it does on mine), and it supports all current iPods

Mac OS X only: Shareware application Syncopation keeps your music, podcasts, and video in sync between up to five iTunes libraries. The app finds music that’s in one library but not others, then transfers files between computers until everything matches. Syncopation is smart, too: it automatically replicates changes to a track’s metadata in one library across your others. You can even set up block lists that keep, for example, your thrash metal out of your significant other’s library. Syncopation is $25 for the full version, but you can download a demo version that works with two computers for 30 days—so if you just want to run one quick sync between two libraries, it’s an excellent free solution. Either way, the Mac OS X-only Syncopation is a great tool, though it’d be great to see a completely freeware alternative.
