Save files from you networked computers, while listening to an iTunes shared library. You can save your friends – sorry, YOUR – MP3’s and AAC’s across a local network. This program is written in the java language which is cross platform meaning it can run on any computer which has the java runtime installed. Unfortunately the program is still very buggy in OS X, but the developer is trying to fix this.

Tips for making it work better:

  • Start iTunes just before starting ourTunes.
  • In OurTunes, select a download directory. This MUST already exist.
  • Select the shared library you want from within OurTunes.
  • It’ll say “creating passthrough thread…” and should then give some information about the library you chose.
  • Back in iTunes, select the second version of the library. This should have just appeared…
  • Play a song to download it. You can pause to speed it up.
  • It helps to fully listen to the first song; “speed downloading” often causes iTunes to disconnect from the share which is an inconvenience.
